

Health Savings Accounts (or H.S.A.’s) are special tax-free savings accounts that individuals, spouses or
dependents can use to pay for qualified medical expenses when they have a high deductible health insurance
plan. The Federal Government can change the deductibles each year, based on the Consumer Price Index.
Blue Cross-Blue Shield plans that qualify as high deductible health plans are called Flexible Blue.
The minimum deductible for 2007 is $1100 per person or $2200 per family. Deductibles must be met before any
medical and/or prescription drug expense can be paid. If you have a family contract, no medical expenses for any
family member will be paid until the full family deductible is reached.
If you are covered by a high deductible plan you can make pre-tax contributions to an H.S.A. to cover deductible
and coinsurance liabilities up to maximums determined by the I.R.S.
